YMCA at the Orientation Conference “Youth Employment in Macedonia”

YMCA developed different initiatives and projects for fostering youth employability in Macedonia, and Initiated a National Conference together with the State Agency of Youth and Sport.

The conference was held on the 15-16 of December 2006, in hotel Continental in Skopje. More than 100 representatives from the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, Ministries, embassies, donators, media and Non-Governmental Organizations took part in the conference, discussing on the issue of youth employment in Macedonia and sharing their experiences in this field.
At the Conference the leaders and volunteers of YMCA gave unique input with their active participation and sharing of experience in the workshops as wall as on the round-table discussions. Once again this conference pointed out the strong partnership of the YMCA with the state institutions, aiming to support the interests of young people in the country.

Aleksandar Kirkovski from YMCA Macedonia was facilitating the working group “Possibilities of cooperation between the government and the NGO sector”.        
Mr. Anthony Little and Mr. Dragan Simonovski on behalf of YMCA Macedonia, talked about analyzes and concrete suggestions and initiatives of YMCA in the field of youth employment, as well as the concrete pilot initiatives for local and economic development in different municipalities of the Republic of Macedonia.
Mr. Anthony Little further on spoke on the subject “Programme for skills obtaining for youth employment” stressing on the instruments for aiding the youth employability such as: the enhancing key skills (Language, IT, Self presentation and Business awareness); joined up networking of the Business sector, Municipalities and the young unemployed; and the Sustainability (Municipal Business Recourse Centers, continuous training programs, annual “Job Fairs”).
As key employment skills of the Youth Sector the following were pointed out: development of the language skills, development of the modern business skills, improving the access to IT support/Internet, developing the IT skills relating to modern business practice, improving the personal skills and improving the “Job access” skills (CV’s etc).
In the last component, the necessity of certification of training programs was emphasized, as well as the promotion of “Life Long Learning” initiatives and promotion of the consistency in standards of education qualifications.
