Together in Progress – a project on human rights

Skopje and Prespa region,
July –December 2004

The Together in Progress project was a nation-wide project that was focused on human rights and participation of marginalized groups in the society, and awareness campaigns and human rights education of young people in Macedonia.
Three target groups in the country were in the focus of this project were: the Roma refugees in the district of Sutka, the displaced people from Albania in the Prespa region and the marginalized youth groups in the Topaana neighborhood. In the project were actively involved students from the Institute of Social Work and Social Policy, and four high-schools in the city of Skopje. Three foreign volunteers from France and Poland were also involved in the project and had the opportunity to interview the target-group population and get to know their reality better.
The project on human rights “Together in progress” was initiated by volunteers in the YMCA – Skopje, coming from different high schools in the capital. Together with the project managers from the organization, they developed the program for helping these marginalized groups of citizens and developing support for them with the other high-school students from the capital and the help of the business sector. The positive experience of this project was a stimulus for the young members to develop similar projects in the future and make a follow-up of this one.
